On one of those famously hot Caribbean days, there is nothing more refreshing than a cold, creamy ice cream. Where can you get the best ice cream of Curacao and what do you think of our favorite ice cream parlors?
‘You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy ice cream and that’s pretty much the same thing’ – Unknown.
With several locations including the Hyatt, Zuikertuintje and Jan Thiel Beach, Bella Italia prides itself on being the only ice-cream parlor in Curacao that serves real Italian Gelato. As somewhat of a connoisseur ourselves, we wholeheartedly concur with this statement. But be warned; they are very generous with their portions so order in moderation. However, no matter how many scoops you do order, don’t forget to try their finger-licking good Oreo flavored ice cream!
Bella Italia, Jan Thiel Beach z/n. Open Monday – Sunday from 9 AM – 11 PM. Don’t miss: it’s impossible to choose from the delicious flavors, but you should definitely try their Baileys ice cream and tiramisu.
Although frozen yoghurt doesn’t officially classify as ice cream, we couldn’t exclude Fro Yiu from this list. With delicious flavors such as death by chocolate, vanilla stevia and honeydew melon, this froyo shop can please just about anyone. Besides their flavors, the self-service topping bar is very popular, especially with kids. Fro Yiu was and still is the only self-service frozen yoghurt shop on the island, and we’re very happy they are here!
Fro Yiu, Schottegatweg oost 173, Salina. Open Monday – Thursday from 11 AM – 10:30 PM, Friday – Saturday from 11 AM – 11 PM and Sunday from 12 PM – 10:30 PM. Don’t miss: every week Fro Yiu has a different sugar-free flavor you can try.
With no less than three locations on the island (Santa Maria, Punda & Salinja), the famous Baskin Robbins has certainly made a name for itself outside the United States. Named the top ice cream and frozen desert franchise by Entrepreneur Magazine, these ice cream shops will satisfy your cravings for something sweet and cold on a hot day. Visit them in one of their locations and choose from the many, very many delicious flavors!
Don’s Ice Cream Shop
In the beautiful and old Riffort village in Otrobanda, you’ll find something for everyone. But when it’s really really hot and you just have to cool down, pay a visit to Don’s Ice Cream Shop. The friendly and helpful staff is happy to accommodate your every wish, whether it’s ice cream & waffles, a cool drink or one of their specialty coffees. Make use of their outside table seating and enjoy your treat!
Champs Ice Cream
Champs Ice Cream sure knew where to locate their shop. You simply cannot miss their colorful parlor in the middle of the Wilhelmina square in Punda. If you weren’t craving a cold snack yet, the bright and cheerful colors make sure you will. Choose a flavor to your liking or go for a shake. Champs also offers great desserts such as banana splits, and the restaurants that surround the ice cream parlor happily make use of this option, which means you can also grab a bite to eat at one of the restaurants and just get your desert straight out of their shop. The servers will even bring it to you, so you don’t even have to get up!
